Attending the Collision conference in Toronto a couple of weeks ago was an amazing experience, teeming with innovation and networking opportunities. As one of the largest tech conferences in North America, Collision 2024 attracted a diverse crowd of entrepreneurs, investors, media, and tech enthusiasts. Held at the Enercare Centre, the event spanned four days, from June 26 to June 29, showcasing the latest advancements in technology, startups, and industry trends.
The week-long event kicked off with a high-energy party on Monday night and that energy carried on throughout the week. The conference showcased a mix of start-up exhibitors at different stages of growth, keynote addresses, talks, panel discussions and product demonstrations. We also had many invigorating conversations as we introduced founders and CEOs to the concept of fractional marketing and how fractional marketing can drive success in the early stages of a company’s growth. Similarly, we met so many folks working on some of the key challenges the world faces today. Below is a round-up of businesses that made a big impression (in no particular order!).
5 Businesses That Blew Us Away at Collision 2024
1. Waabi
One of the standout companies was Waabi, an AI-driven startup focused on revolutionizing autonomous driving. Their presentation highlighted their cutting-edge virtual reality technology, called Waabi World, designed to make self-driving long-haul transportation vehicles safer and ready for real-world deployment. Waabi’s founder, Raquel Urtasun, captivated the audience with her insights into the future of transportation, emphasizing the potential of AI to transform urban mobility.
2. Relocalize
Relocalize is an innovative technology company specializing in decentralized, sustainable food production. Their primary focus is producing and distributing locally-made, frozen foods through a network of automated micro-factories. By leveraging advanced robotics and AI, Relocalize aims to reduce the environmental impact of food transportation, enhance food security, and support local economies. Their unique approach ensures that food is fresher, waste is minimized, and the carbon footprint of food production and distribution is significantly reduced.
3. Project Liberty
Project Liberty, a social impact initiative, was another highlight. Their mission to create a decentralized internet resonated with some and surprised others. By advocating for data privacy and security, Project Liberty aims to empower individuals to take control of their digital identities. The initiative’s founder participated in a compelling panel discussion on the importance of a free and open internet and how far we are from that reality today.

Homes to Zero showcased their commitment to sustainability with an ambitious goal: to reduce the carbon footprint of residential buildings to zero. Their approach combines advanced building materials, renewable energy sources, and smart home technology to create eco-friendly living spaces. The team’s dedication to combating climate change was inspiring, and their booth attracted a steady stream of visitors interested in sustainable living solutions.
5. Archive Resale
Archive Resale, a standout at the Collision event, captivated attendees with its innovative approach to circular fashion. Co-founder Emily Gittins opened the presentation by sharing that there is currently enough clothing on earth to dress the next eight generations of humans—without having to make a single additional garment! That’s a huge problem.
Archive Resale partners with leading brands to implement resale programs that extend the life cycle of apparel and accessories. By enabling brands to launch their own resale platforms, Archive Resale promotes sustainability and reduces textile waste. The enthusiasm for a more sustainable fashion industry was palpable, making Archive Resale a highlight of the conference.
Other Highlights of Collision 2024
Capping the week off was a happy hour we hosted for our clients, partners, colleagues, and friends. The event was held in the upscale (and very warm) Evangeline bar at the Ace Hotel. We loved the opportunity to meet in person, in some cases for the very first time, and have in-depth conversations about a variety of topics including fractional marketing, business operations, and AI.
